Sunday 7th
Sorry we could not get internet access for a week due to a cyclone.
So here is an update......
Darjeeling
We got up at 4am and saw the sunrise over the mountains and the snow covered slopes of Katchenjunga.

Visited the Happy valley tea estate selling tea exclusively to Harrods and had a tea lesson on super fine tippy golden flowery orange peco one - even tasted some brewed for 5 seconds....

Next stop was Mirik which boasts a large lake, excellent food, horse riding and pedaloes! We took the pedaloe and sampled the food.
It was about 4hrs on the road before we got back to Kalimpong in a jeep with 17 aboard. Very hot and squashy.
We said goodbye this morning ...had a wonderful trip to Bhutan last week.
Now we have a night here before flying to Delhi and two nights there before flying home to UK.
If you think you are having hot weather you should try this!!!

So...
We made it a bit further but came to a halt and I had to climb round four landslides and walk about 3 miles to meet another jeep which took me to Darjeeling.
In between
Caroline went down with a tummy bug so I had to travel to Lamagoan on my own.
We had tried to get there last Tuesday but found the road blocked by a landslide.
When thedriver decided to turn round we found ourselves blocked in by another landslide!
Eventually it was cleared and we went back to Kalimpong.

Monday morning and it's raining
It's the first time I got my umbrella out and I certainly needed it on the walk up to town.
This morning we planned the next stage of our adventure.
I will not be going to Bhutan but there is an exciting programme ahead.
Tomorrow we take a jeep at 7.30am in Kalimpong, wait until it is full up and take a three hour trip to Darjeeling. Bishesh will meet us there and go with us on the jeep trip to his home in Bijanbari (the field of seeds) which being on the plains is hot. The next day we set off for Lamagoan (Quite a bit higher and cooler)to see the school etc till Sunday - no blogging while we are there.
Next Monday we hope to go to Sun duk pur which is 12,000 ft high (beware possible altitude sickness...) and has a good view of the Himalayan mountain range. Bishesh is arranging for us to stay in a trekking hut. We plan to do some walking from there. I understand the road up is quite scarey...... some people prefer to get out and walk in places as the jeep does three point turns to get round the tight hairpin bends which have quite a drop on one side.
Apparently there is a good walk down through the rhododendron forests to another hut and then we will go via Bishesh's house to pick up our stuff before spending a couple of days in Darjeeling.
That's the plan, but out here it seems that anything can happen..... we are learning to wait and see.
Attentive

Tuesday
Caroline bought Indian style trousers, top and scarf.
It seems to preparation time as we look forward to various visits.
I have been compiling a paper of youth games for use by members of the team.
Hoping Bishesh will appear tomorrow and we can sort out a visit to Lamagoan next week, Meanwhile we have been preparing an English lesson for use up in the hills at the end of the week.

Weekend
Here at last.
Visited the town but couldn't get any money out.
Had lunch with some YWAM workers and began to plan a visit next weekend to a project in Takna, where Caroline and I are to run a Sunday school event - based around the call of Peter. Please pray for us in this.
Sunday - went to church withBen and Heather at Bethlehem fellowship. Men and women sit on different sides of the church on the floor. I was invited to sit on a bench at the front with Ben and Caroline and Heather sat on a bench at the back..
I gave a greeting from the churches in the Modbury team and asked them to pray for us which they did. I ws asked to do the blessing at the end of the service and to pray for a woman with a skin complaint.
There is a possibility that I might be able to visit Bhutan - wait and see.
Meanwhile we are expecting to meet with Bishesh this morning (Monday) and visit the school and his area for a few days this week. So I will probably not be able to blog.

15th May
Visited a YWAM project where they make contact with street children and visit in a slum.
Went to the YWAM centre in KTM valley where a number of courses are run.
They have an interesting way of extracting rice from the sheaves. They just lay them on the road and let the cars drive over them.
In the eveing we had a meal with the regional director of YWAM in Nepal and stayed the night with Joel a film actor who had an amazing story to tell.....
Next day we set off for Kalimpong at 4.15am in the dark, after 700km we arrived at 10.15 at night in the dark. And what a journey that was.
Up through the hills of Kathmandu and as the light began to dawn the road became more and more rough until we were travelling along a river bed.
At 11am we came to a stop. A boy had been killed in an accident and the road was closed - they talked about a period of 3 days! The relatives close the road in order to force some financial recompese. So after waiting an hour we took a side road, which became a path, then fell down to a dried up river bed and finally we made our way round. At midday in 39 degrees centigrade we caught our first glimpse of the snow topped himalayan mountains.
Another delay was caused by a "bund" a political strike which closes the road, so once again we took a scenic diversion.

13th May
Instead we had lunch with Ben and Heather and booked out of the Kathmandu Guest House to stay a night with Joel, a friend of theirs.
Tomorrow we are making a 4am start for the long drive out of Nepal to Kalimpong.
Ben has suggested he might try a new route through the mountains....
We are trying to change our flight back so that we don't have to fly back here to Nepal but fly from near the Rex's to catch our flight from Delhi... we shall see.
Still fit and well and enjoying lemon tea as well as Yaks cheese

Departure day
Had fun last night trying to sort out the plane seats on line.
They needed the Rex's postcode, which I didn't have.
There's not even an address in church!
So I just made it up and managed to get to the next page on the site and booked the seats.
We are leaving Modbury in 55 minutes .........
Sunday, 3 May 2009
The programme so far.
There's a three hour wait and then we fly on to Kathmandu arriving at 14.45.
We have booked in for one night (11th May) at the Hotel Thamel.
We are hoping that Ben & Heather make contact with us.....
On Friday 15th Ben & Heather will drive us to their home in Kalimpong, about 200 miles east of Kathmandu (as the crow flies, which I don't think it does there!).
We pass Everest on our left hand side.
We will be staying with Ben & Heather and are in their hands.
We want to visit Bishesh and the school at Lamagoan - Modbury Primary school are giving me some pictures and video of the school here to take out.
The return flight is on 10th June, so we will have to make our own way back to Kathmandu by then.
This is all we know at the moment.
